OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

In Doctrine, We Have Unity

“There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope when you were called– one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” - Ephesians 4:4-6

In Matters of Opinion, We Have Liberty

“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters... Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls... So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God... So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.” - Romans 14: 1, 4 , 12, 22

In All Things, We Show Love

“If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” - 1 Corinthians 13:2

OUR LIFESTYLE STATEMENT

Beliefs are not worth much unless they are translated into actions. Based on what the Bible teaches, we feel very strongly about the following practices:

THE BIBLE AS SOUL AUTHORITY

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” -2 Tim. 3:16

Since God’s Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living.

AUTONOMY OF EACH LOCAL CHURCH

And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning…” - Colossians 1:18

Christ is the recognized head of our church, not any person, group, or religious organization.

PRIESTHOOD OF EVERY BELIEVER

“Christ loves us...and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father” - Revelation 1:6

The Bible teaches us that every Christian is called to “full time” Christian service, regardless of his or her vocation.

TITHING

“A tithe of everything you produce belongs to the LORD ; it is holy to the LORD” - Leviticus 27:30

At Shelby, we practice tithing for the support of Christ’s Body, the church, as God commands. We recognize that giving 10% of our income is the Biblical standard of giving.

BAPTISM

“For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ… ”- Col. 2:12

We practice baptism by immersion under water - the way Jesus was baptized, and the way the Bible sets as the example.

SPIRIT-LED LIVING

(Jesus said) “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” - John 15:5

We believe the only way possible to live the Christian life is by the power of God within us. It’s not me getting more of Him, it’s Him getting more of me!

TELLING OTHERS ABOUT CHRIST

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

 - 1 Peter 3:15

It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the Good News with those God brings us into contact with.

WE BELIEVE IN...

  • The infallibility of Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • The absolute diety of Christ (Colossians 2:9)
  • The virgin birth of Christ (Luke 1:34)
  • The historical creation of Man (Genesis 1& 2)
  • The sinful nature of Man (Genesis 3)
  • The substitutionary death of Christ (1 Cor. 15:3)
  • The bodily resurrection of Christ (Luke 24:39)
  • The literal return of Christ to earth (John 14:3)
  • The resurrection and assignment of all people to Heaven or Hell (Revelation 20: 10-15)

Becoming a Christian

Shelby Christian Church believes that there is no greater pursuit in life than becoming a committed believer and follower of Christ. SCC believes that one becomes a committed believer in Christ through:

FAITH IN JESUS

“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned”

- Mark 16:16

“They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved–you and your household.’” - Acts 16:31

ADMISSION OF SIN

“I tell you... unless you repent, you too will all perish” - Luke 13:3

CONFESSION OF CHRIST AS SAVIOR AND LORD

“Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.”

- Matthew 10:32

BAPTISM BY IMMERSION

“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’” - Acts 2:38

“And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.”

- Acts 22:16

Becoming a DISCIPLE of Christ

We exist to equip those who are reached to become fully devoted disciples of Christ. What does a DISCIPLE look like?

DEDICATED TO FAMILY (Colossians 3:18-20)

Couples dedicated to one another, parents dedicated to children, families dedicated to one another, and to other families as brothers and sisters in Christ.

INVOLVED IN MINISTRY (1 Peter 4:10-11)

Being a disciple of Jesus is not a spectator sport. We all have spiritual gifts, and if we don’t use them, the body suffers.

SURRENDERED IN STEWARDSHIP (2 Cor. 9:6-8)

True stewardship means giving of time and talent, as well as out tithe.

COMMITTED TO ONE ANOTHER (Romans 12:10)

Being a member of a church is just as much a commitment of the members to the church as it is of the church to the member.

INTERCEDING FOR OTHERS (1 Timothy 2:1-4))

Focus on PRAYING for one another!

PRAISING HIM IN WORSHIP (John 4:23-24)

There are many different expressions of worship: Singing (Ephesians 5:19); Commitment Romans 12:1-2); Praying (Psalms 95:6); Hearing the Word (John 17:7); Giving (1 Cor. 16:1-2)

 Baptism   (Romans 6:3-4)

 Meditating  (Habakkuk 2:20)

 Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 11:23-26)

LOVING TO LEARN (2 Timothy 2:15)

The only way to become like Jesus is to learn about Jesus!

EVANGELIZING THE LOST (Matthew 28:19-20)

There are only two things that you can’t do in heaven that you CAN do on earth. One is to tell others about Jesus, and the second one is to sin. Which one do you think God wants us to do?
